Symantec™ App Center complements and extends iOS 7, giving IT organizations the flexibility to address diverse mobile security needs from a single solution.
Security and management across platforms
Enterprise mobility management can be complex. Not only are there multiple mobile platforms, but they also provide different levels of security controls. BYOD continues to gain momentum, with analysts predicting that by 2017 companies providing only corporate-issued devices will be the exception rather than the norm. With more lines-of-business (LOB) taking the lead on mobile projects, security and management are often an after-thought for IT. App Center simplifies enterprise mobility management by providing a consistent security and management strategy across the platforms, including Android and iOS, and device ownership models that make up enterprise mobility. App Center helps IT organizations more easily manage security policies, ensuring corporate data is secure regardless of platform or device ownership.
App Management without MDM
App Center provides security and management in those scenarios where mobile device management (MDM) is not feasible. MDM certainly has a role in enterprise mobility. But for various logistical and regulatory reasons, it’s often not possible to manage the devices. For example, doctors who contract with multiple hospitals and need to access patient records managed by the hospital cannot run multiple MDM profiles. Contractors or partners will not give your IT organization control over their tablets and smartphones. Your IT team might not want the management overhead to support these non-corporate assets either. In some countries or industries stringent privacy laws also prevent IT from managing personally owned devices.
