SBL helps Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust to implement system consolidation project

The Customer

SBL’s client, Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust provides a range of mental health, children's, learning disabilities and substance misuse services to people across Derby City and Derbyshire County.

As an NHS Foundation Trust, the customer is free from central government control and is more independent in terms of finances.  This means, however, the Trust has sole responsibility for its assets and, like many NHS organisations; the Trust is under pressure to gain substantial efficiency savings.

SBL have an excellent understanding of the financial situation for customers in the NHS and wider public sector, and are always proactive in the delivery of best value and savings wherever possible.

The Challenge

The customer planned to implement a new electronic record system to improve efficiency. 

In order to do this in an effective way, consolidation of a range of complex systems was required, which had to include installation of various licenses throughout the organisation. 

The Solution

In order for the customer to gain best value for money it was integral to gain an understanding of current circumstances.  SBL assessed the Trust’s IT estate and worked with them to tailor the licensing structure specifically around the Trust’s needs.  The licensing requirement included VMware, Oracle and Microsoft.

SBL took a very proactive and involved approach in assessing and managing the Trust’s requirements.  In doing so,  SBL were able to establish the number of licenses needed, which was less than the Trust had originally estimated, thereby reducing the cost to the customer. This meant that SBL passed on a saving to the Trust of £5,500 overall.  Without SBL’s advice and project management, the Trust would have paid for a higher number of licenses needlessly.

In order to ensure the project ran smoothly and efficiently, SBL worked with the customer on-site and took part in several meetings.  SBL also liaised with third party vendors where required, in order to gain advice on the purchase of licensing in relation to the Trust’s specialist requirements.

SBL worked with the customer to ensure that their needs were met within timescale.  A deadline for implementation was maintained as Oracle offered all NHS Trusts a level of discount that would expire at the end of April.  SBL worked hard to manage the implementation of the licenses by this deadline, in order to deliver the customer the best value possible.

As part of the project, SBL offered extra value by providing free Licensing Clinics to take place on the customer’s premises, as often as required.  This was an opportunity for the customer to relay any issues and gain advice on any new requirements that may arise. 

The Result

All licensing requirements were met and the project was rolled out successfully.  Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust were extremely pleased with the service and products provided by SBL, and due to the high quality and dedicated service delivered, the customer chose to enlist SBL with a larger project  streamlining their wider systems.
