Strategic Account Manager

Key Functions of Role:

  1. Direct account management of key and strategic customer or partner accounts.
  2. To identify and develop prospect clients in to key customers spending accounts
  3. Accountability for the delivery of business individual or team targets
  4. The identification, realisation and progression of key strategic business opportunities within the designated business stream in line with agreed account plans.
  5. To maintain high level regular contact with a range of customer and prospect organisations with extensive travel within the UK mainland and potentially overseas when required.
  6. Responsibility for the promotion and fulfilment of SBL’s products and services (both internal and external).
  7. To facilitate strong liaison with a range of internal SBL departments and their associated management contact to enable the direct allocation of internal effort and resource to the required sales goals.
  8. The completion of customer account profiles and record of significant engagements.
  9. The provision of business intelligence directly to the Sector Manager and CEO/Group Sales Manager and other appropriate SBL Directors when required.


Graded commensurate with business experience and sales performance.



To comply with all company policy, procedures and other instructions as may from time to time be issued including Health, Safety, Environmental, Security and HR documentation.



To carry out a varied selection of duties including, but not limited to the following:

  1. Meet defined team or individual sales targets as jointly developed with the Group Sales Manager.
  2. Present monthly business progress reports to the Group Sales Manager and CEO
  3. Present detailed and timely business and customer reports as required. 
  4. Develop and strengthen relationships with customers, partners and prospects predominantly through in- person engagements and communication via the telephone and email.
  5. Pursue and exploit relevant public speaking and presentation opportunities.
  6. Progress the development of SBL Services offerings for high margin sales opportunities with the Sector Manager and or Group Sales Manager and Professional Services Team.
  7. Seek membership of relevant committees and organisations and attend when/if appropriate
  8. Attend when appropriate marketing events throughout the year to represent SBL and capture sales opportunities.
  9. Proactively seek opportunities for further attainment of SBL’s growth and development goals.
  10. Understand customers' diverse, specific business needs and apply appropriate product and services knowledge to meet those needs
  11. Preparing and delivering customer presentations articulately and confidently
  12. Ensuring quality of service by developing a thorough,  detailed  and current knowledge of SBL product and services portfolio
  13. Develop clear and effective written proposals, business cases and quotations for current and prospective customers
  14. Ensuring customer and prospect records are maintained through the CRM system 

Skills/Experience Required:

  1. Degree level and/or significant B2B sales experience.
  2. Excellent communication skills.
  3. Excellent time management skills
  4. Proposal and report writing skills.
  5. Track record of creativity, innovation and sales target delivery.
  6. Capable of public speaking to a range of audiences.
  7. Account management experience.
  8. Experience/ History selling IT
  9. Basic IT Infrastructure Knowledge
